Helping an Addict or Alcoholic and Keeping Your Sanity
To solve a problem one must first understand the problem. Unfortunately, that's hard to do with addiction and alcoholism because it makes no sense. Why do people keep on with their substance use when it's ruining their life and making them miserable?
Ironically, most people who try to help an addict become too involved in the problem, which may do more harm than good. They get drawn into the addict's circle of chaos, and end up participating in the addiction by being enablers. This creates chaos and insanity in their own life, and does nothing to stop the addiction.
Introducing “Understanding and Helping an Addict (and keeping your sanity),” a new release from Recovery Folio Publishing, now available on amazon.ca (see link below).
In this important book, medical doctor and addiction survivor Dr. Andrew Proulx - a leading expert on addiction psychology - explains the effects of addictive substances on the brain and mind, and why addicts and alcoholics behave the way they do.
Dr. Andrew then goes on to explain exactly how form a bond with an addicted loved one and to use this bond to help the addict to move to a willingness and mental readiness to accept the help they need. He then explains your role in your loved ones treatment and subsequent recovery and relapse prevention.
Dr. Andrew provides guidance for loved ones of addicts to remove themselves from the addict's circle of chaos and to take a different approach to helping the addict that's more effective, and also allows them to take back their own life and sanity.

Are you looking for a flexible opportunity to volunteer, while seeing the real-life impact you're making? CNIB has the position for you!
As a Vision Mates, you are paired with a person who is blind or partially sighted to help with sighted tasks in their home, deliver groceries, or call to chat. Our current volunteers find this both easy (it feels like spending time with a friend) and flexible (visits/calls are scheduled between the volunteer and their match at a mutually convenient time). Training is provided.
We’re currently looking to match:
- Mary, 75, Big Pond, comfortable with any gender/age volunteer. Looking for a volunteer caller to talk to someone about anything under the sun. If possible, it would be nice to have an in-person match to go for walks or have a cup of tea with, however she would be thrilled to simply have a phone call. -Very easy-going and flexible, extremely accommodating with regards to a scheduled time.
- Robert, 70s, Ingonish, likes talking about music, philosophy, and spirituality. He’d like help reading mail and books, organizing, going for walks, and socializing.
- George, 60s, New Waterford, would like a female visitor weekday afternoons to help with reading, going for walks, and socializing. He describes himself as a “pretty good fella” and enjoys books, magazines (MacLeans, Canadian Geographic), wrestling shows, outer space movies, and going to Tim Hortons and the library. He has some hearing loss and needs someone who will speak slowly.
- Faith, 50s, Port Hawkesbury, wants a call twice a week in the evening (local calling). She likes to joke around and is easy to talk to. She enjoys knitting, reading, baking, and spending time with her cat. She’d like an older female volunteer, who would help with organizing, grocery shopping, and going for walks. She wears a hearing aid so annunciating will be important.
- Christina, 40s, Port Hawkesbury, is looking for someone to go for walks with so that she can practice using her white cane and become more independent. She’s not looking for a sighted guide, but rather someone who can provide assistance if/when needed. She enjoys listening to audio books.
- Michelle, 70s, Sydney, would like help shopping, going for walks, and completing paper work. She enjoys crafts, books, computers, and spending time with her grandchildren.
- Peter, 40s, Sydney, is a new parent who would like someone to exercise and jog with. He is interested in movies, shows, music, the news, his community, current affairs, sports, and reading. Weekends and Friday work best.
- John, 60s, Sydney, would like a female volunteer to help with reading, organizing, and going for walks to coffee or to the pharmacy. He has a cat and enjoys gardening, talking about travel, and listening to CBC.Interested in volunteering for this position? Email jeff.deviller@cnib.ca and he'd be happy to answer any of your questions!

Are you in a romantic relationship and plan to relocate with your partner in the near future? Are you interested in being involved in psychological research? If so, then our study would be a great fit for you!
My name is Rebecca, and I am a research assistant from the Relationships and Well-Being (RAW) Lab at the University of Toronto. Our lab studies romantic relationships and what factors are responsible for keeping couples healthy and happy over time. More specifically, we are launching a study that tracks couples who are going to relocate to a different city or country for one partner’s job in the upcoming year—a growing trend in our fast-paced, mobile world. Many people report changes to their relationships during a major life transition such as relocation. We are interested in surveying couples before they relocate, during their move (i.e., brief biweekly surveys in the midst of moving), and after they have relocated (i.e., follow-up surveys 3, 6, 9, and 12 months later) to identify factors that will help couples navigate changes throughout the relocation process. Given the longer-term commitment we require in this study, participants can earn up to $120 CAD ($240 CAD per couple) for their valuable time and efforts.
To be eligible for our study, you and your partner must be:
● At least 18 years old
● Currently living together
● Able to read and write in English
● Planning to relocate for one of your jobs/schooling (at the earliest) in one month from now up to (at the latest) March 2021 **
● Both willing to participate in the study**We recognize that your relocation plans may have been adjusted as a result of COVID-19. If you still intend to relocate for one of your jobs/schooling within the upcoming year, we encourage you to reach out.
If you meet our criteria and are interested in participating in our study, we ask that you email us at utmrelocationstudy@gmail.com with the subject line “Interest in Romantic Relationships and Relocation Study”. When we reply, we will arrange a time to chat on the phone with you and your partner to confirm your eligibility.
Note: your personal information will be kept strictly confidential and only used for the purposes of contacting you to confirm eligibility.
We look forward to hearing from all of the relocaters out there!
With great thanks,
The RAW Lab Team

I need a tow. You want fuel $?
My boat is in Shelburne NS and I want to get it to Ontario. Because the water is about to get too hard to use it I'm not in a hurry. Because of Covid 19... I can't just pop by and pick it up without quarantine for 14 days. I'm looking for someone that has a class 3 hitch and is coming to Ontario. Ideally Drop it off in London but anywhere near Toronto is OK.
Timeline: The next few weeks would be ideal four towing weather wise.
The boat and trailer weigh about 2500lb. (I tow it with a minivan that has a 3000lb towing limit.) The trailer doesn't have breaks. Boat and trailer are about 21' long.
So If you have car insurance, a hitch and the ability to tow and your coming to Ontario let me know.
I'm looking at paying $500 to have it dropped off in London at your leisure. That should look after fuel and put $ in you pocket.
Please contact me through Kijiji with any questions.

I'd like to get my boat form Shelbornd NS to Ontario. Covid won't let me pick it up myself without a 14 day Quarantine ... I'm in Ontario.
The boat is 2500lb and on it's own trailer. Over all the length is 21'. It has a 2" hitch and tows nicely but has no trailer brakes.
Ideally whoever brings this will drop it off in London Ont. I'm happy to pay $500 for that.
An alternative is delivering the boat along the 401 for a reduced fee.
If your driving from the East Coast this will pay for your fuel and some.
The photo is of the boat. It is road ready and can be picked up anytime this week.
Timing is up to you. Just want it by Dec 1/2020. I'm not in a huge hurry but do want to get the boat home before its frozen to the ground.

I lost my wedding rings, pictured, and a ring similar to the other pictured, back in November 2019. Loss happened in Yarmouth, rings might have fallen on ground somewhere, maybe Superstore or on Main Street, maybe Perky Owl. This yellow gold, ruby and emerald with small diamond ring was given to me by my mother. I also lost my wedding and engagement rings at the same time and never heard anything. Someone surely found them. Have you purchased or seen someone wearing a ring like these? My mother bought the one ring in BC over 10 years ago, so not a locally available. My engagement ring had 5 diamonds on either side, and five on the top in a princess cut formation. My wedding band has 11 diamonds. They're 10 kt white gold. Can't remember the kt of my mom's ring.
Reposting because my husband lost a ring of his yesterday, please see my other post to read about his ring. Tysm. Reward for returning my rings.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL MEETINGS ARE CANCELLED AT THIS TIME DUE TO COVID CONCERNS.
Regular meetings of the Central Nova Coin Club are scheduled for 7 PM on the first Monday of each month throughout the year. Meetings are held in the large meeting space at the Truro Recreation Department Building (former Douglas Street School), 40 Douglas Street in Truro. Visitors are welcome.
There will be a short business meeting to deal with club activities, followed by an informational program on some aspect of numismatics. Then there will a mini auction of coins, tokens or paper currency brought in by members. Visitors are welcome to participate. Payment by cash only please. Department of Health Covid protocols will be in effect requiring masks and social distancing.
There will be club members present at the meeting who are knowledgeable and happy to appraise old coins, tokens and paper currency, and provide a free estimate of their value. You should always know the value of your collectable items before you part with them. It is always wise to obtain an appraisal from a professional numismatist or a collector you know and trust.
Always beware of the outfits with fancy advertising that flit into town on a weekend and only pay a very small percentage of what a coin is actually worth. We have heard the horror stories of people who have been ripped off. DO NOT BECOME VICTIM OF AN UNSCRUPULOUS BUYER BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW THE TRUE VALUE OF YOUR COIN.
CLUB TIP : -Never, NEVER clean or polish old coins; it will ruin the collectable value.
Anyone with an interest in coin, token or paper currency collecting is welcome to attend one of our meetings. Perhaps you will be interested in joining this popular hobby group. Just show up, or if you wish more information please use this contact message or google Central Nova Coin Club or check out our club Facebook page.

Just wonder if anybody has a spare turkey any trimmings they could spare so I could put on a Christmas dinner for my kids. I missed the Christmas index and just found out that the kids are staying home for the holidays. Normally they go to the city with their family..
The one year they stay home, they are I don’t have the money to get anything because I took my money for medication that was not covered under my medical for my sever kidney issues.
Anything would be greatly appreciate it. Also if you happen to have a star next to star or a little angel for the top of my tree appreciate it as well or any spare decorations you’re not using. But I don’t use our gift to my shut in senior neighbour,All alone and we could use a little lifting up for the holidays as well as I’ll share the meal with him and another young lady that’s self isolated because she’s an essential worker early.
Thank you very much if you can spare anything it. Merry Christmas , Happy New Years nd stay safe in Covid times

Today I saw a social media post, the woman said her soon to be ex husband drove 10 miles to put gas in her car so she didn’t have to get out in the cold.
It’s not because you want to wreck what that person currently has, it’s about still caring and respecting each other even when it doesn’t work out but still wanting a friendship. Sometimes we still care, we just are not good together as much as we wanted to be. You are still one of the good ones even though we didn’t work out the way we thought. My parents had that and it is something I have always been hopeful for.

TRADUCTION EN FRANCAIS PAR LA SUITE
Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, here are the three main values of the ''body and mind'' discipline from China.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ-A6xY47jc
Falun Dafa has 5 high-level qigong exercises, two of which are meditations - one standing and one sit-down. The exercises are similar to Tai Chi in appearance.
This is a free activity. 100 million people practice it every day. You can find everything you need for free (exercice video, books, contacts, etc.) on www.falundafa.org
Miss Canada 2015-2016, Anastasia Lin, also practices these exercises/meditation and also talks about its persecution in China:

* Please, note that Falun Dafa is the victim of genocide which is still active in China. For more details:
