Layout: Cable locker and U-shaped settee forward with deck hatch above. The head compartment is adjacent aft port side. Aft cabin with double berth and storage compartments forward is port side aft. The galley is to the starboard side. The navigation station is adjacent aft. Double berth is starboard side aft. Machinery space is aft of the companionway. The cockpit has pedestal steering, aft storage lockers, and canvas dodger supported on a stainless steel frame.
Finish: Vessel finish is original white gelcoat with light blue boot and shear stripes.
This boat is not your standard 36’ sailboat, nor is it the standard Lancer 36. They build the standard cruising model with a conservative masthead rig. They also build a sport model with a lighter ballast, taller fractional rig, slightly modified foils and a more basic race boat interior. This boat is a combination of the two. It has a fractional rig, lighter keel with the full cruising interior. Interior layout is different from most boats because this boat was built with no central bulkhead.
I was told this boat was built in the first production run as a sales platform. The original design was a boat called “Chutzpah” that was Bill Lee’s first transpac winner in the early 70’s. At the time it was the smallest winner. The design was sold to Lancer who hired a young designer named Bruce Farr to make some modifications in order to be more production friendly. The tall fractional rig with swept spreaders was part of his influence on the sport model. The forestay on the rational rig is within 2” of the masthead version but the mast is a couple feet forward in the boat so the boom is considerably longer. This allows the chainplates to be in the same location for both boats

Thunderbird For Sale Dodo #117 (previously J-Bird) is located at RVYC Jericho in Vancouver BC. $ 5,000 CAD This is an awesome boat that needs a new home. I no longer have the time to maintain this boat and I don’t want to see it deteriorate. It needs a bit of work but nothing major. The cockpit hatches need to be redone and the brightwork needs updating, etc. If you happen to know anything about this boat's past I'd love to hear about it. Dodo was saved during a 2021 refit. Three of the four chainplates and a forward cleat had rotted the hull and deck. During the refit, all of the rotted wood was removed, patched and reinforced. The boat is structurally sound. Fantastic whitewater solo canoe. It is the original Esquif ledge, so it is a little heavier then the newer models, but the benefit is that it is way more durable. Hull of the boat is in fantastic shape.
Price is lowered because an animal did eat some of the outfitting. I have rasped off the damage, and will sell the boat with the foam to build up the saddle to your perfect height. Would fix myself, but thought that the buyer would want to make it their ideal height. Needs one afternoon of love to be river ready.

The Rain Drain™ port, cut at 5/8", will drain while tipped up to 45° degrees. Unlike others, Beckson Rain Drain™ Ports have open drains which resist clogging and are easy to clean. Other drain windows retain up to one- third of a cup of water in each window when closed. Opening them can soak you and the boat. Where greater mounting angles exist, insist on Beckson Rain Drain™ ports for superior service.

Thunderbird For Sale Dodo #117 (previously J-Bird) is located at RVYC Jericho in Vancouver BC. $ 5,000 CAD This is an awesome boat that needs a new home. I no longer have the time to maintain this boat and I don’t want to see it deteriorate. It needs a bit of work but nothing major. The cockpit hatches need to be redone and the brightwork needs updating, etc. If you happen to know anything about this boat's past I'd love to hear about it. Dodo was saved during a 2021 refit. Three of the four chainplates and a forward cleat had rotted the hull and deck. During the refit, all of the rotted wood was removed, patched and reinforced. The boat is structurally sound. Suzuki 2.5 hp 4 stroke outboard, very low hours
2006 Suzuki 2.5 4 stroke, used infrequently on my tender as I prefer to row. Oil changed regularly, drained of fuel each season, and regularly maintained. 28 ibs dry weight, sips gas. I no longer need it. Runs smoothly.
